Kids Talk

There is an old couple living next door. They are very kind and lovely people. Occasionally, they will baby sit their 2 grand children because their daughter and son-in-law want to enjoy a little bit time off.

Once I asked the younger brother who's only 3, "What's your name, young man?" He answered very seriousely,"My name is DiDi (In Chinese, it means younger brother)." He continued while pointing to his sister, "Her name is JeJe(In Chinese, it means elder sister.)."

When asked where are their parents, the elder sister said,"They went for a date!" And, turning to her grandma, she asked,"Why don't you and grandpa go for a date too?"

God's gift

Our friend KK in Jakarta has just become a father!

He and his wife have gone through a long struggle before finally have a baby boy. In fact, they have lost their babies during his wife's previouse pregnancies for 3 times! I really am touched by their perseverance and faith. And to know that no matter what, God will always give you the best!

Daddy

In the lift, we met a mum with 3 boys. You can easily tell they are brothers, Age from 3 to 5 maybe. They have beautiful eyes and are very active.

Walking out of the lift, the youngest started to run and shouting towards the car park, "Daddy, Daaaaaddyyyyyy, Daaaaaaaaaddyyyyyyyyyy wheeereee are you?" The other 2 brothers joined the chorus. And there's no way mummy could stop them. Daddy got out of the car, opened up his arms, and the boys ran to him.

What a scene! We watched and smiled at each other. My husband said if Chocolate(our cat) can talk, he would do the same thing. I said, if you were that daddy, you would be crying by now. I knew he would. :-)

Who will feed the old and the young?

I am refering to an article in the Sat Straits Times about world population. It's a very good article and it brings up the issue that everyone knows but few really know how serious it is.

First of all, the fertility rate. Ok, I guess most people out there do not know what is the index for fertility rate. So here it goes:
according to the CIA factbook' 2005 estimates:
fertility rate < 1.5 is considered "very low"
fertility rate 1.5-2.0 is considered "Moderately low"
So how's the rating for the countries and regions that I live in and closely connected to?
No1: HongKong (0.94)
No2: Macau (1.00)
No6: China (1.20)
No10: Singapore (1.24)
You see, all of them are in the group of "very low fertility rate"! And...I am part of the cause because I have been married for almost 4 years and I have no chilren yet! (expression of guilt...)

Secondly, the median age. Who will have the oldest median age in 2050?
No.1 Macau (age 54.4)
No.6 Singapore (age 52.1)
And again, I could be one of the reasons if I were still alive by then. I would be...74 by then, part of the silver brigade. Sign...look at how much trouble and burden I have brought to this world. (expression of misery)

Nevertheless, life will go on. I have planned to change and now I think I must do it! Not that I need to have someone to feed me when I am old, but to show a bit of social responsibility thus redeem a little bit of my sin if possible. (expression of hope) :-)

So, come on, let's make more babies!

Baby Boom

Is 2006 the year for baby? So far, we have 4 friends had new born babies from Feb to March!

Ginnie led the way. She gave birth to a boy in Zhongshan in late Feb.

Patrick's wife gave birth to a boy in KK hospital Singapore on 2nd March.

Then came KS's. Also a boy!

Geoffrey's daughter is the only girl among the 4.

All the first born are boys. Geoffrey's daughter is his 2nd child. There seemed to be a pattern ya?! :-D

So while Kenny and I are happily seeing photos of the cute babies and exciting parents, we are also busy answering question on:"When is your turn?" Hehe...and having lots of advices from our friends too. Really, it does make me feel as if wanted to have one now. :-O If only it were as easy as writing a blog entry... :-)

Take a break. Have a Kid or Cat?

There are 3 in our family: Kenny, Chocolate and I. Chocolate is our cat.

Kenny and I have been thinking about issues we may face if we were to have kids. When I visited my doctor the other day, one of the nurses shocked me when she told me cats bring virus to pregnant woman and I should be prepare to give up Chocolate if I were to have kids.

I couldn't believe it. Is it really true? Or, is it still true now that technology and medical services have been so advanced? And even when my Chocolate is so very healthy?
